Flowers in Praise
A workshop with a difference; participants were invited to help decorate the Wanganui Collegiate Chapel in readiness for public viewing on the Saturday and for a Thanksgiving Service at 8am on Sunday morning. Tutors were Merle Snell and Shirley Fletcher of Hamilton.
Seventy pew ends were created as well as six pillar designs and four beautiful traditional pedestal designs for the nave of the Chapel while a cascade design flowed from the pulpit.
There were twenty pavé designs for kneelers in the chancel or as mats on the altar steps. A beautiful garland design adorned the front of the altar table, with similar designs on the choir desks at each side of the chancel. The screens at the back of the chapel between the porch and the nave were adorned with designs of green foliage lemons and apples. In the entrance porch, the baptism font was beautifully decorated and another pedestal design completed the display.
The Chapel was open to the public on Saturday only, to view this beautiful display. Visitors were invited to donate a gold coin to go towards the Chapel organ restoration fund.
The organ music accompanied hymns, at a service of thanksgiving at 8am on Sunday morning, conducted by Archdeacon Elizabeth Body with readings and prayers from Heather Hammond FASNZ President, Mary Mackay and Margaret Ashley, FASNZ Life members.
Amongst beautiful floral designs was a most appropriate way for members to give thanks for all FASNZ has achieved during its forty-five years.
